Watch Motorized Roller Shades in Action

If you’ve ever watched the sunrise, you know the feeling. The sun rises so slowly and elegantly, changing the atmosphere in the most beautiful way. Motorized roller shades can create the same feeling inside your home. Allow the morning sun to gently fill the living room creating a warm, cozy space. In the afternoon, adjust the shades to block any harsh rays to protect your furnishings. At night, observe the shades as they glide down to secure your family’s privacy while you make way for your evening routine.

Automated Rollers Benefit You

A valuable list of the benefits of motorized roller shades is found below.

Privacy & Security

Privacy is important when you’re at home, but maybe more so when you’re away. Along with privacy, automated control of your window coverings can add security, too. Set your motorized roller shades to continue to adjust while you are out of town. This makes your home look “lived in” while you’re not there.

Child Safety

It’s our mission to keep children and pets safe when it comes to window coverings. Messy, tangled blind cords are dangerous, but this is a preventable accident. Window Fashions of Texas urges everyone to be part of the solution and move toward cordless blinds. Motorized roller shades are just one of many products offered that can reduce the worry in your home by removing cords from the equation.

Energy Savings & Comfort

The key to energy savings and personal comfort comes down to controlling the light. We all know how damaging UV rays can be to your furnishings–and how quickly sunlight through a bare window can affect the temps inside. By controlling the light exposure, you can reduce your utility bills and protect your hardwoods, too. With YOU in control, you can schedule treatments to spring into action at the perfect time each day, effortlessly.

Pros & Cons: Motorized Shades

After years in the industry we understand your hesitation when it comes to motorized shades. You may not want to go through the trouble of installation, adding a power source, or–let’s be honest–the cost. We think knowledge is power, so let’s take a minute to consider this…

The Power Supply

When clients question the power source for smart shades, we know we are working with an informed consumer. We are happy to have this conversation, since we have multiple answers for you. There are a few ways Hunter Douglas shades, blinds, shutters and drapery can be powered up. What option works for you?

Hard-wired Power: If you are building a new home or beginning a remodel, hard-wiring a power source for shades may be a good idea. While the walls are exposed it’s a simple upgrade to put low-voltage electrical in place. That way, when you’re ready to choose window coverings, the sky’s the limit.

Disposable Batteries: Traditionally this is the most popular power source. AA batteries are used to power the shades. Depending upon how often they are adjusted, we recommend changing them out every 1-2 years. Keep in mind, when windows are out of reach this method  can be challenging, and the cost of batteries for multiple windows may be of concern.

Rechargeable Battery Wands: Hunter Douglas offers a rechargeable battery wand that supplies power to remote control blinds. Many homeowners are choosing this option, and past clients are adding it to their existing shades, as the rechargeable battery option is capable of being retro-fit to clients motorized shades that have been previously purchased and installed.

The Installation

There’s no doubt, window treatments are an investment in your home. Today’s innovations, upscale design elements and operating systems have increased prices across the entire industry. So the question remains…can you do it yourself? Sure, you CAN. Big box stores and the internet can supply similar products. But the real question is “Should you?” Our answer to this question is a resounding NO. If you want it done right, sit this one out. Think about it. Are your windows in hard-to-reach places? What if you damage the products, or install them incorrectly–and they never work exactly how they should. Our team is made up of professionally-trained installers who have done this many times before. They can have it set up and running on Day One for you to enjoy. Don’t make an expensive mistake.

The Cost

No matter who our client is, cost is always a consideration, and we like to be transparent. Your design consultant would be happy to show you shades with motorization added and shades without. Truth be told, many clients are pleased when they see that smart shades have gone down in price since the technology was introduced some years ago. Like all other technology, automation is becoming commonplace. The value motorized roller shades will bring to your home outweighs the additional cost, in our opinion. An investment like this will increase the value of your home and improve the quality of YOUR life now.
