With the season of fall upon us, we’re excited to show off the latest color trends in design. September’s New York Fashion Week unveiled the Pantone Top 10 Palette for 2024, followed by a beautiful selection of the Top 5 Neutrals. Let’s get to know the colors that are trending and what you can expect to see in home design…
The Palette
It’s a statement, it’s a movement. The announcement of Pantone’s annual list doesn’t just introduce us to the latest color trends, it invites us into the meaning behind the selections–the message being sent. Full of optimism and brimming with life, this palette was chosen to encourage personal freedom and creativity.
Now, the colorful selections here are standout colors. What about the “classic palette” that also has its place in design? Let’s look at the upcoming year’s top 5…
We are thrilled to see the inclusion of grays and browns in the same year. It’s finally come to a point where you don’t have to choose a beige to be considered “timeless,” and you don’t have to choose gray to stay “on trend.” You can make your selection with confidence that they are both on the table. And, they can mixed put together in design without harm.
Let’s Get Colorful!
There are two rules that you should know when adding color into design. One of the ways you can pair colors will offer a bolder design, where the other is smoother. When you put colors together from opposite sides of the color wheel, they provide contrast to one another and enhance the design with a statement. Traditionally, it’s red and green–but, this orange and green mudroom welcomes the same look. In this equation, one of the colors is typically dominant, with the other found in accent spots.
The other option is to pair colors that are close together on the color wheel, resulting in a smoother mix. That doesn’t mean it’s not a statement, but they play well together making a joint statement as opposed to contrasting each other. It’s great for adding personality to a space but sticking to a well-blended vibe.
Start with Neutrals
If you’re thinking about adding color into your home, starting with a neutral palette allows you to introduce color in small ways to see what you like. Artwork, area rugs and accent furniture are all ways you can make your space unique and fresh.
Contrast the Neutrals
One exciting color pairing that we haven’t seen much of before this year is the mixture of grays and browns in the same shared space. Grays have traditionally cooled down the look of a room, while browns are known for warming it up. How do you like this new movement in design–intentionally putting these two together?
One thing we can all agree on is how amazing the Silhouette Shades look on these windows–enhancing the view, but bringing in glowing light. What an incredible backdrop for this living room.
